How to Remove Fluoride from Water

Fluoride is a well-known neurotoxin and it can cause several problems such as impairing the immune system, causing birth defects, gastrointestinal symptoms, muscular weakness, bone and joint symptoms, and many more.

Most water systems in the US may sometimes contain fluoride in it and the worst part is that it is not visible to the naked eye. So if you want to get rid of fluoride from your water and protect your family then here are some different methods on how you can do it.

Distillation

This method is capable of removing just about anything from the water except for volatile compounds. If you have a distiller installed in your water system then it can remove fluoride easily. The most obvious drawback about this method is that it can consume a lot of time and energy. This process can also render the water it distills to be lifeless and feel empty. So if ever you plan on using this method then make sure to add some minerals back to the water to make it healthier.

Reverse Osmosis

This method involves a reversal of the normal osmotic process. It relies on a semi-permeable membrane and pressure to get rid of the water contaminants. This process is very effective since it is capable of removing up to 95% of fluoride from the water system. The contaminants are trapped by the membrane of the reverse osmosis and they are eventually flushed away in wastewater.

Activated Alumina

Fluoride is easily attracted to activated alumina wherein it contains a large surface area that has a large array of tunnel-like pores. With that in mind, there’s no doubt that the activated alumina is the most commonly used method. If it is utilized properly then it can remove up to 98% of fluoride in your water system and arsenic removal is an added bonus.

BC-Carbon

The Bone-Char Carbon has been used for several years already to remove the natural fluoride from the water. The way it works is similar as to how the bones in the human body attract the fluoride that enters. The bone has a porous matrix that has a high concentration of surface ions. It can effectively remove the fluoride in your water system along with other well-known contaminants. You can definitely say that this option is tested and proven because of its many years of existence.
